Guepiniopsis alpina, first record of the genus Guepiniopsis for Iran

Abstract:

In the framework of collecting and identifying of wood fungi of Iran, specimen of cup fungus from wood and debris of conifers was collected. The characteristic features of specimen were as follows: Fruit body cup-shaped, gelatinous, up to 1 cm high and to 1.5 cm wide; bright orange. Fertile surface concave. Spores sausage-shaped, smooth, up to 4-5-celled, 15.5-18 × 4-6 µm. Basidia shaped like a fork. Clamp connection present. This specimen was identified as Guepiniopsis alpina (Tracy & Earle) Brasf. (Dacrymycetales, Dacrymycetaceae) (Reid 1974). Gelatinous fruit body and shape of basidia and basidiospores are characteristics of G. alpina. This is first record of species from genus Guepiniopsis in Iran. Material examined: Gilan Prov., Talesh, Gisoom forest, on wood of conifers, 15.10.2008, Asef & Torabi (IRAN 13627 F).
